The netball community in Queensland are voting with their feet ahead of the 2021 season, with thriving registration numbers reflecting the sport’s increasing significance and popularity at the grassroots.
More than 31,000 people have signed on for netball competitions across the State in the first month of the registration period, a 4% jump from the same time last year.
Netball Queensland’s General Manager – Delivery Network, Melissa Bennett, believes the growth is a clear indication of the important role grassroots sport plays within the community.
“It’s encouraging to see members of our netball community voting with their feet and returning in strong numbers following an interrupted season in 2020,” Bennett said.
“Last year taught us how significant the sense of belonging and togetherness sport provides is to our community and that’s evidenced by how eager our members are to get back on court in the coming months.”
“We are looking forward to seeing players, coaches, umpires, officials and volunteers return to the courts for the winter season in their tens of thousands as our game continues to grow and meet the evolving needs of our community.”
Members are also experiencing a new registration process for the first time in 2021, with the introduction of NetballConnect.
A world-leading sports technology platform that changes the way the game is managed, played, scored and spectated, NetballConnect allows end-to-end registration all from the palm of your hand.
Bennett says adoption of the NetballConnect technology has been promising.
“The enthusiasm for the new platform has been really encouraging and the numbers speak for themselves as more than 50,000 users have opened an account on the new platform.”
