Talented 12-15 year old netballers from across the state will showcase their talent on the Sunshine Coast at the Nissan State Age Championships from Saturday, 25th September to Tuesday, 28th September 2021.
An annual highlight on the calendar for up-and-coming netballers, over 2,500 players from across Queensland will play at the Nissan State Age Championships. Teams from across the state will compete – from Cairns and Moranbah through to Toowoomba and the Gold Coast – with some teams travelling more than 10 hours to compete at the event.
Catherine Clark, Netball Queensland CEO said she was excited to see Queensland’s young representative talent on court and thanked associations for the extra effort to make the event a reality this year.
“State Age is always an exciting event for our teenage netballers and I can’t wait to see the extraordinary talent on show starting this weekend,” Clark said.
“With our Nissan State Age titles rescheduled due to COVID lockdowns earlier this year, our associations have gone above and beyond to ensure our netballers have an opportunity to represent their regions this year."
“I’d like to thank the associations as well as our sponsors for the extra investment of time and their ongoing dedication to make State Age a reality. We’re looking forward to four exceptional days of netball.”
“Special thanks to the Sunshine Coast Council and our event sponsors Nissan, Aurizon, The University of Queensland, AV Jennings, Origin, Oporto, GAME clothing, Hart Sport, Blackbook.AI, HCF, Suncorp, Mizuno, the Courier Mail and B105 for their support of this year’s event.”
“I’d also like to make special mention to our teams from Tweed Netball who have been unable to compete this year. And, to our netballers across Australia who have been affected by lockdown restrictions – we don’t take for granted how lucky we are and hope to see you all out on court soon.”
We announced on 13 August 2021 that we will be increasing the opportunities for players, coaches, managers and umpires from next year by offering two events – Junior and Senior State Age. This change responds to the growing number of associations and teams from across the state who want to compete in the event and our commitment to provide boys with pathways in our sport.
It also reflects the constraints on netball infrastructure across our state, as we have outgrown even our largest netball facilities.
As our traditional winter season comes to a close, our associations and clubs are already starting to plan for next year including the 2022 State Age championships.
The new Senior State Age event will be held over the long weekend of: 30 April – 2 May 2022, and will be open to 15, 16 and 17’s age divisions, including boys’ teams.
The Junior State Age event, now for 12, 13 and 14’s years age divisions, as well as boys’ teams will be held during the July school holidays: 2 – 5 July 2022.
Netball Queensland is currently working with stakeholders to identify suitable locations for these large-scale events and will ensure our community is advised as locations are confirmed.
