Netball Queensland (NQ) has added Country Carnival and Primary Schools Galas to its 2024 competitions schedule.
Country Carnival will be held at Townsville City Netball Association from 18-19 May with multiple divisions from ages 12-18 competing in the event for associations north of Gladstone, with associations south of Gladstone able to request approval to attend.
NQ will also run Primary School Galas for students in Grades 4-6 at 10 locations across Queensland, removing barriers for students to attend.
Both competitions join the existing schedule including the Junior and Senior State Age events, Vicki Wilson Championship and Boys Open and Primary Schools Cup - which will have the addition of a North competition in 2024.
The Primary Schools Cup North is an initiative allowing schools north of Gladstone to enter without the burden of travel that has restricted entrances from that area to Primary Schools Cup in the past.
“The aim of these new competitions is to provide more opportunities to play for our regional members and associations,” NQ general manager of netball Glenn Dennis said.
“Country Carnival means associations can play other associations in their region without the additional commitments that come with attending a State Age competition.
“Primary School Galas will encourage students to play netball and nurture their love of the game alongside their friends and school.
“Historically north Queensland has been hugely underrepresented in our Primary Schools Cup event and holding Primary Schools Cup North is a great chance to open up that event to more schools and students.”
The 2024 junior competition schedule begins with the Senior State Age at Western Districts Netball Association from 6-9 April before Downey Park Association hosts Junior State Age from 29 June to 2 July.
The Vicki Wilson Championship and Boys Open regional rounds will be held across 12 Queensland locations through Term 2 of the school year before the finals are contested at Nissan Arena from 9-10 August.
Primary Schools Galas run throughout Terms 2 and 3 before the Primary Schools Cup North and South are held during the September school holidays.
