The trio’s selection means Queensland is the most represented state in the 10-athlete squad with NSW, Western Australia and South Australia having two athletes selected each while Victoria has one representative.
Flegler, Hutchings and Delaney were all members of Queensland's gold-medal winning 17 and Under squad at the National Netball Championships last month in Darwin.
All three were subsequently named in Netball Australia’s 17 and Under selection after that tournament with their Commonwealth Youth Games selections capping off a massive few weeks.
Flegler, from the north Queensland town of Tully, has risen through the ranks via Queensland's regional pathways and her journey is an inspiration to aspiring netball players in regional areas, proving that talent and determination can be rewarded despite geographical borders.
Jada Delaney, the daughter of former Adelaide Thunderbird and Australian Diamond Jacqui Delaney, has risen through the Sunshine Coast Netball region ranks, while Gemma Hutchings is a product of the Brisbane Netball Association and Brisbane North Cougars pathway.
Netball Queensland Head of Emerging Pathways Roselee Jencke congratulated all three athletes on their selection.
“We are immensely proud of Sasha-May, Gemma, and Jada for their outstanding achievements,” Jencke said.
“Their dedication, skills, and teamwork have earned them a place in the Australian FAST5 Netball team.
“We wish them all the best as they proudly represent Queensland and Australia at the Trinbago 2023 Commonwealth Youth Games."
FAST5 Netball is an exciting, high-energy variation of the traditional netball game. It features five players per side, shorter quarters, power plays, and super shots, resulting in explosive, dynamic, and entertaining matches.
Trinbago 2023 Commonwealth Youth Games will mark the debut of FAST5 Netball in the competition.
The Trinbago 2023 Commonwealth Youth Games, hosted by Trinidad and Tobago, will feature teams from Australia, England, South Africa, Botswana, Canada, St Vincent and the Grenadines and Scotland, all vying for victory on the court at the Shaw Park Cultural Complex from August 8 to 10.
