Spearheaded by captain Ellie Brice, the Australian 17 and Under squad also features fellow Queenslanders Holly Comyns, Jada Delaney, Sasha-May Flegler, Gemma Hutchings, Tia Molo and Kirra Tappenden.
Queensland is also represented in the Australian 19 and Under squad with Baylee Boyd, Lillyana Rennie, Elsa Sif Sandholt and Kaylin van Greunen selected. Queensland based Northern Territory athlete, Kiera Heffernan, also gained selection in to the 19 and Under squad.
The squads were selected by a panel made up of Netball Australia’s Pathway Head Coach Anita Keelan, chair of selectors Michelle Wilkins and selector Jacqui Illman.
Wilkins said the 2023 National Netball Championships highlighted the bright future of Australian netball.
Whilst several other Queensland athletes certainly displayed exceptional performances across the Championships in Darwin, Australian Youth Squad selection numbers are capped, making it an incredibly competitive selection.
“The 2023 National Netball Championships was one of the most tightly contested competitions in many years,” Wilkins said.
“The shooting ability from both age groups demonstrated impressive skill to react under pressure, the midcourt craft showed great depth and variety, and the defensive talent was both athletic and exciting.”
The National Pathways Squad athletes will take part in training camps organised by Netball Australia later this year.
