The expanded Finals Series now features 56 teams, including four more boys teams, showcasing the continued growth of netball in schools. With high participation rates across regions like Capricornia North, Sunshine Coast, Met East, Darling Downs and South West as well as Northern the future of netball is in exciting hands.
The competition has also evolved to reflect this growth, with South Coast’s North and South regions split further into Development and Championship divisions.
This year’s Final Series features schools fielding multiple teams across divisions – including Shalom College, Fairholme College, Immanuel Lutheran College and St Rita’s College in both the Cup and Shield, while Coomera Anglican College features in three separate finals divisions. Somerset College and Marsden State High will fly the flag in both the Boys and Cup competitions, with St James College contesting the Boys and Shield divisions.
With defending Boys champions Smithfield State High School not returning in 2025, the Boys Open title is officially up for grabs, promising fierce competition across the two-day finals.
Meanwhile, the Cup division saw history made earlier last year when St Peter’s Lutheran College became the first non-Gold Coast school to take the crown since 2020 – and they'll be eager to go back-to-back.
This year’s Finals will also be bolstered by the inclusion of First Nations representative teams in both the Cup and Shield divisions, underlining the tournament’s role in fostering inclusion and opportunity.
The Vicki Wilson Championship umpires expressed interest and were selected for this event based on their performances at various Netball Queensland competitions. Over the two-day competition Netball Queensland Head High Performance Umpire Coach Marc Henning will be assessing these umpires for potential selection to officiate at the State Titles in September.
With so many netball-loving secondary students in attendance, the two-day event will also offer Netball Queensland and Queensland Firebirds partner The University of Queensland to inform competing Year 12 students of its extended Firebirds Scholarship offering with 10 of the $5000 scholarships for new UQ students with a demonstrated passion for netball available to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the partnership.
UQ was also able to invite Mackay junior Mia Pastega, and her family, to attend the Queensland Firebirds final match of the 2025 Suncorp Super Netball season at Nissan Arena after she was the lucky winner of a competition at her regional round of the Vicki Wilson Championships with Mia also meeting members of the Firebirds squad during her trip to Brisbane.
Along with UQ, Netball Queensland partners HART Sport, Fulton Hogan, Mizuno and Tribal Sport will all activate at the event while Player of the Match vouchers are being provided thanks to Baskin-Robbins.
The Vicki Wilson Championship and Boys Open finals will be live streamed via NetballQTV. Click here for more information.
