Joyce and Marchant were on opposite sides for last weekend’s HART Ruby Series grand final between the Carina Leagues Club Tigers and Gold Coast Titans, with Joyce’s Tigers taking out the title over Marchant’s Titans.
Now the duo will combine for a common goal as Moreton Bay College look to scupper Canterbury College’s quest for a three-peat in the Cup division of netball’s premier event for Queensland secondary schools.
A total of 52 teams are competing across the Cup, Shield and boys’ divisions at the finals series this Friday and Saturday.
Joining Joyce and Marchant at the event will be several players from last weekend’s HART Sapphire and Ruby Series grand finals including Tiger Indiana Richter (St Aidan’s Anglican College) and Titans Aaliyah Sheppard (Canterbury College) and twins Roxanne and Maddison Rhind (Somerset College).
Several members of Queensland’s 17 and Under and 19 and Under state teams will be competing for their schools in the finals series, as the best young netball talent in the state goes head-to-head.
This year’s Finals Series is a culmination of a hugely successful Vicki Wilson Championship which has featured 258 schools from across the state competing in regional rounds – up from 233 last year.
All three divisions have experienced substantial growth with 264 Cup teams, 270 Shield teams and 120 boys’ teams – up from 93 last year – taking part in the various regional events.
The two-day finals series looks to be red-hot with the boys’ division in particular looking wide open with only four of the 12 teams having qualified last year and none of last year’s top four schools competing.
While Canterbury College are seeking a third straight win in the Cup division, King’s Christian College will be defending its title from last year in the Shield division.
Adding to the event, Netball Queensland partners University of Queensland, Fulton Hogan, Origin, Mizuno, Nissan and Valour will all be activating across the two days to provide plenty of excitement off the court alongside the action on it.
