Netball Queensland are pleased to announce the Umpire Performance Squad (UPS) and Umpire Development Squad (UDS) for the 2020 season. Following nominations by umpire coaches and Netball Queensland Umpire Development Advisor, Cameron Williamson 24 umpires have been selected.
The aims of the squads are to:
- Grow understanding of the National Accreditation assessment criteria and to create a unified application of the rules;
- Provide exposure to Firebirds, Fusion and State Teams training and match play;
- Formulate Individual Umpire Development Plans to assist with their improvement in a Good-Better-How philosophy;
- Increasing possibility of progression of an umpire’s National Accreditation level; and
- Build upon the existing umpire culture.
Umpire Coaches Di Cocker and Caroline Stevens will be facilitating 5 theory sessions for both squads, to be held once per month. The first theory session was held in January.
The Performance and Development Squad umpires will be allocated to the HART Sapphire and Ruby Series, and QPL Opens competition.
Netball Queensland are currently considering a Northern Rays Umpire Development Squad to provide a similar program for umpires that service the Northern region of Queensland.
