IT is with great sadness that Netball Queensland acknowledges the passing of Nerida Bartlett earlier this week.
A stalwart of the netball community, Nerida rose from officiating her daughter’s matches at Western Districts Netball Association in Brisbane’s inner west to being on the sideline at national level.
Nerida’s career as a top bench official lasted over 15 years and included grand finals of the Commonwealth Bank Trophy, ANZ Championship and Suncorp Super Netball – mostly in her preferred position of Scorer 1.
A career highlight for Nerida was the 2018 Suncorp Super Netball grand final in Perth, won by three points by the Sunshine Coast Lightning over the West Coast Fever.
Nerida was also a regular on the sideline for international tournaments, Australian Netball League and National Netball Championships.
Despite stepping down from national level officiating in 2020, Nerida remained on the sideline for Netball Queensland tournaments including last year’s Nissan State Titles and the 2022 HART Ruby Series decider.
Nerida was also a dedicated supporter of the grassroots of the sport, serving as a member of the State Events Committee who delivered major carnivals such as Junior and Senior State Age in their famous red shirts.
Netball Queensland’s thoughts are with Nerida’s family at this difficult time.
