The Association received funding to redevelop their 14 hard courts through the Community and Recreational Assets and Recovery and Resilience Program; a joint funded initiative by the Australian and Queensland Government to assist in the clean-up and repair of community and recreational assets damaged by the extraordinary disaster events of financial year 2021-22.
Federal Minister for Emergency Management and Minister for Cities, Jenny McAllister, said she was delighted to kick off the redevelopment of the Bradbury Park netball courts.
“Whether you’re training to be in the Diamonds or enjoying a fun weekend game, the rebuilt netball courts will be a wonderful place for the community to come together,” Minister McAllister said.
“As a community recovers from disaster, events like weekend netball comps matter more than ever. We’re delighted to be partnering with the Queensland Government and council to support this club and its members.”
State Member for Stafford Jimmy Sullivan said he was “proud to support this upgrade – not just as an MP but as a proud neighbour and supporter of Brisbane Netball Association”.
Local Councillor Danita Parry said the Bradbury Park courts were an important community asset used by thousands of players all year round.
“Netball is going gangbusters and this redevelopment will improve the playing experience for even more netballers when it’s complete next year,” Cr Parry said.
“Facilities like this are one of the many reasons why Brisbane’s lifestyle is the envy of the nation.”
Brisbane Netball President Penny Hamilton said it was an exciting day to see construction get started.
“We are relieved to see works commence after making do with our courts since the damage in the 2022 floods with the fantastic support from the Queensland Government, Brisbane City Council, Tango Projects and Court Craft,” Ms Hamilton said.
“It was particularly special to share this moment with Lorraine Decker, Brisbane Netball Patron and Founding Partner, who oversaw the development of our first courts 52 years ago. We look forward to launching our 2025 Winter Day Season with our new playing facilities.”
Completion of the project is scheduled for April 2025.
