NETBALL Queensland has elected Leanne Coddington as the organisation’s new board chair following Saturday’s annual general meeting.
Leanne, who was appointed to a director position with the board in February, fills the vacant chair role with Ian Fullagar having to step down from his position earlier this year after his appointment term came to an end.
Directors Simone Waugh and Dianne Croonen were also re-elected to their positions for a further three year term during the AGM.
The decision to elect Leanne was made at an extraordinary general meeting of the NQ board following the AGM as per the organisation’s constitution.
A former senior executive at Tourism and Events Queensland for the past 26 years, including being CEO from 2013-2022, Coddington brings enormous experience and capability into the role.
“Leanne’s significant strategic experience and an intimate knowledge of major events delivery and consumer behaviour are assets that Leanne has already brought to our board and make her an ideal choice to be chair,” Netball Queensland CEO Kate Davies said.
Attendees to Saturday’s AGM were told about how NQ has increased its workforce in the regions with a focus on strengthening relationships with our stakeholders and the wider netball community to support the continued growth of the game across the state.
Total netball participation grew to 127,600 in 2022. This consisted of registered players, camps, clinics, school programs and an army of netball volunteers.
NQ also ran its Netball United marketing campaign, partnered with tele-health mental health service provider White Cloud Foundation while the NQ and Firebirds partnership portfolio delivered significant commercial investment.
Netball’s home, Nissan Arena, delivered 35 major events including seven Firebirds’ matches and 20 Brisbane Bullets’ fixtures, four major boxing events, the Harlem Globetrotters and three cheerleading events (across six days). Community court utilisation reached 79 per cent for the year with a record attendance of 400,880.
Saturday’s AGM was also the first since the release of NQ’s new Strategic Plan (2023-2025) which outlines the choices Netball Queensland is going to make over the coming three years as the organisation strives toward a vision of being the most played and supported sport in Queensland.
