Top spot was on the line in the key match of Sunday's final round of the regular season at Nissan Arena as the Cougars faced Bond University Bull Sharks.
In what may be a grand final preview, the Cougars proved too good on the day as they claimed the minor premiership with a 79-73 victory.
The Cougars' victory means they head into the finals on the back of a seven-match winning run and with Head Coach Liz White's history of premiership success, must be the team most feared in the finals.
Bond meanwhile will have to regroup before the two teams meet again this Sunday with a spot in the grand final on the line.
At the other end of the ladder, Sunday was a historic day for the Pulse as they claimed their first win in the Sapphire Division with a dramatic 59-58 victory over the Brisbane South Wildcats.
The triumph ensured the Pulse avoided going without a win in their debut campaign with Ella Fitzgerald's 42 points including six Super Shots as well as crucial late two-pointers by Chevvone Thomson and Jennifer Tongotongo securing the long-awaited success.
In Sunday's other games the TAE Aerospace Jets shook off the disappointment of failing to make finals to end their season on a winning note, pipping the Gold Coast Titans 65-64 in a thriller with Australian Under-21 squad member Elsa Sif Sandholt scoring 46 points for the Jets in the victory including the decisive goal in the dying seconds.
The Titans, who go into finals after back-to-back defeats, will face the Sunshine Coast Thunder in Sunday's elimination final with Simone Nalatu's team easily defeating Carina Leagues Club Tigers 82-59 in their final regular season game.
Sunday's finals action begins at 4pm on at Nissan Arena with the Cougars and Bull Sharks facing off before the Titans and Thunder start at 6pm.
