Since our last update, we have observed limited cases of COVID-19 in Queensland – a continued positive sign we are slowing the spread. We have seen some additional relaxing of restrictions over the past week and moving into the weekend (just in time for Mother’s Day).
In addition to the prior announced, from Sunday May 10:
- 5 people from one household can visit another household
- School commencement will occur on Monday 11 May for Kindy, Prep, Year 1 and Year 11 & 12
Outings are still limited to members of the same household or an individual and one friend. All rules regarding social gatherings remain in place.
Recommencement of Netball – state of play on 8 May
Netball Queensland has continued to work with government, Netball Australia and our colleagues from all States and Territories with a focus around scenario planning for returning to the courts.
Following our Board meeting on Tuesday 5 May we have formed a working group, led by Deb Eastlake (Netball Queensland Delivery Network Lead based in Townsville), focused on preparing a detailed “return to play” plan supporting our recovery phase across four pillars:
- Return to Community Netball and Netball Competitions
- Return to Elite Performance (Queensland Firebirds and Elite Programs)
- Nissan Arena; and
- Return to Work
We also had a teleconference with the Department of Sport and Recreation this afternoon following the release of the Roadmap to easing Queensland’s restrictions with confirmation Queensland will be moving to Stage 1 on 15 May. While there is a lot of detail to work through, be rest assured positive changes are on the horizon. We will continue to communicate as information comes to hand and will work as quickly as possible to provide direction on what these updates mean for our netball community.
