NETBALL Queensland would like to congratulate Di Fawcett on being awarded her National A Umpiring badge, which is a high performance umpiring qualification requiring an enormous level of hard work and dedication to achieve.
Fawcett umpired as a junior, but only returned to the sidelines with a whistle for social games at Western Districts Netball Association in 2014.
“I decided in 2015 not to coach or play, and just concentrate on umpiring as I really enjoyed it,” she said.
“I have always loved netball and have played since I was eight, so it was a great way for me to stay involved in the sport. As I started umpiring more and I got better at it, I got increasingly more opportunities. The more skilled and faster the games, the more I enjoyed it. I’ve had some fabulous umpire coaches and I’ve tried to gain knowledge from each and every one of them.”
Fawcett said her main goals are to stay fit and injury-free as she strives to improve and develop her umpiring to a higher performance level.
“(I want to) continue to umpire at HART Sapphire Series level and improve my knowledge and skill on and off the court,” she said.
“Further develop my umpiring coaching skills to get involved with coaching and developing umpires at local and state level.”
Netball Queensland would also like to congratulate Jamie Maher and Cara Wennerbom on their successful A Badge endorsements this season during the HART Sapphire Series.
