Queensland Firebirds stars Kim Ravaillion and Lara Dunkley are among a list of eight Suncorp Super Netball players to nominate for next week’s HART Sapphire Series draft.
Ravaillion and Dunkley will be on the list of available players for the March 9 draft where each of the seven HART Sapphire Series clubs will get the chance to add a current SSN contracted player to their squad for the 2023 season.
Fellow Firebirds Ash Unie, Emily Moore, Macy Gardner and Mia Stower will also be up for grabs along with Sunshine Coast Lightning duo Annie Miller and Ash Ervin.
The draft has been implemented to give SSN contracted players a formalised opportunity for court time during the season that they may not be getting at the elite level.
HOW THE DRAFT WORKS
- Each club can pick one player off the list in an ascending order based on last year’s competition finishes in the HART Sapphire Series.
- Returning Bond University Bull Sharks will get the first pick having not competed in the HART Sapphire Series last year.
- From there the order goes; Brisbane South Wildcats, Carina Leagues Club Tigers, TAE Aerospace Ipswich Jets, Gold Coast Titans, Sunshine Coast Thunder with last year’s champions ACU Cougars to have the final pick.
- A player can refuse a selection due to factors such as excessive travel demands. That player would be no longer available for selection by any club and the affected club would be offered an opportunity to contract another player.
- Clubs can also waive their selection and following the draft use the roster position to recruit a non-SSN player for the 2023 season.
- Once a player is drafted, SSN clubs during the season will advise HSS coaches within three hours of the completion of an SSN game as to whether the player is available and how many minutes they are available for.
