It’s near impossible for Eliza Hoelscher to imagine a life without sport.
So it’s no surprise that the 33-year-old has joined Netball Queensland as a Community Development Officer.
Hoelscher is now based in North Brisbane with her young son, but the Newcastle-born sports lover believes it was her upbringing in Tumbarumba that led her to where she is today.
“In a small-town sport was a way of life and I was heavily involved in all sports that were available,” she explained.
“I have worked with a range of sports including sailing, tennis, swimming, outdoor activity instructor abseiling, wall climbing and water sports.
“I am a sport lover and really believe sport can offer so much to children and they learn not only the sporting skills but teamwork, sportsmanship, respect.”
In her role as a CDO, Hoelscher will have a strong focus on promoting sporting schools, clinics and Net Set Go programs – aimed mostly at Brisbane North, metropolitan areas and the Sunshine Coast.
Coming from her previous role as a Community Development Officer delivering the Good Sports program to more than 150 community sporting clubs holds her in great stead.
She is also confident her experience coaching children of all ages and abilities in a wide range of sports will prove extremely valuable.
“I am a people person and love to hear about the good work that associations and clubs do,” Hoelscher said.
“I will be out in the community working with associations and clubs and trying to build strong relationships to promote the sport of netball to all stakeholders and achieve the number of players in netball.”
Since joining the Netball Queensland team Hoelscher has immersed herself in the netball world and her passion for growing the game is clear.
“I have always wanted to work with a state sporting organisation,” she revealed.
“And Netball Queensland appealed to me as I spent a lot of time playing netball as a child and like the values it teaches.”
