Hundreds of junior netballers from across Queensland will descend on Bundaberg this weekend for the Origin Energy Primary Schools Cup.
A total of 53 teams featuring Year 4 to 6 students will take part in the two-day event at the Bundaberg Netball Association.
That total includes nine teams from five separate Bundaberg schools, ensuring a bumper local participation.
Overall, 530 players are set to compete with up to 1800 visitors and netballers expected to visit the region.
This weekend’s event has been supported by $15,000 in sponsorship funding from the Bundaberg Regional Council and Mayor Jack Dempsey.
This year’s Cup, being live-streamed on KommunityTV, will feature a show-court for selected matches.
The court will feature Netball Queensland-branded post wraps including unique artwork from renowned First Nations artist Rachael Sarra.
The tournament will also include the presentation of the Olivia Douglas Memorial Trophy, awarded to the Most Valuable Player in the Championship Division grand final since 2019.
The trophy honours Olivia Douglas, who tragically lost her life in a car accident before the 2018 Primary Schools Cup and is presented at the discretion of Olivia’s family.
All of the action from this weekend’s Primary Schools Cup will be available via KommunityTV’s exclusive live stream.
