Musgrave Hill State School will travel to Mudgeeraba to compete at next month’s Origin Energy Primary Schools Cup for the first time, but is warning its rivals not to underestimate it.
The team will consist of various skill levels from those naturally talented to some who will make their competitive netball debut when they take to the court at Firth Park.
Though if they share one thing in common it is the fact they are all ‘super excited’ to take part in the event hosted by Hinterland District Netball Association, according to netball coaching coordinator Tahlia Adams.
“Musgrave Hill will definitely be a team to watch,” she said ahead of the Origin Energy Primary Schools Cup which will be held over two days, Saturday 18 and Sunday 19 of September.
“They are driven and have a lot of determination. Even though they are a new team, the way they work together right down the court is incredible.
“They are always pushing each other to do their best and supporting one another on and off the court.
“It is so motivating to watch them work together, it is infectious watching them play you will always be left wanting to see more.”
The team from Musgrave Hill have been working hard training multiple times a week for the past couple of months as they look to make their first outing one to remember.
Their maiden entry into the Origin Energy Primary Schools Cup was a somewhat incidental one and a timely reminder to other schools.
“During term two we ran a netball club where any students from year four to six could come along and play some netball during their break times,” Adams explained.
“From there we noticed that a lot of our students had some real talent and we thought it would really great if we could play in some sort of competition and showcase the talent that our girls have.
“When we found out about the schools cup we thought that it would be a great opportunity for the girls to be involved in.”
They say it takes a village to raise a child and, in this instance, it seems it takes a school community to prepare a team.
Adams said that support is providing hope for this not to be Musgrave Hill’s first and only appearance at the cup.
“I think because it is our first time entering a team everyone is super pumped and excited to come along to watch,” she said.
“During Term two when we had our netball club running, we had a lot of boys coming along to each session and getting involved in the game as well.
“So, if everything runs smoothly, we would love to keep entering a team or possibly more into the cup and be able to have some of our boys involved as well.
“It is such a great opportunity for our students to experience.”
