Of the 64 deliverables that can be completed ahead of the RAP’s second year, 50 have been finalised, 10 are in progress and just four are yet to commence.
Breaking down the results, the Relationships pillar is close to complete with 19 out of 20 deliverables achieved, while the Governance pillar has reached 100 per cent completion, a genuine demonstration of the ways in which accountability for the delivery of the RAP has been embedded into NQ’s ways of working.
Highlights from the first 12 months include the creation of a First Nations Engagement Plan to strengthen ongoing relationships and embed First Nations insights and expertise into the success of the RAP.
Netball Queensland also hosted culturally significant First Nations Round events in both the Suncorp Super Netball and HART Premier Netball League competitions, with guidance from NQ’s First Nations Board Subcommittee ensuring authentic match day presentations and meaningful engagement.
“Reaching 78 per cent of actions in the first year alone shows real progress, and it’s encouraging to see netball continuing to strengthen its connection with First Nations people,” said Netball Queensland First Nations Board Subcommittee Chair Neville Hoehne, a proud Wulli Wulli Wakka Wakka man from Mount Morgan.
Netball Queensland Chief Executive Kate Davies was delighted with the results of the RAP so far.
“It’s been inspiring to see such strong progress in just 12 months,” Davies said.
“From hosting culturally appropriate First Nations Round events, to increasing touchpoints with First Nations players at Junior and Senior State Age, supporting feeder programs, and improving targeted communications to address barriers to our High-Performance pathways — the outcomes so far reflect the dedication of so many.
“We’ve also developed a cultural safety training program for our coaching workforce and produced an educational video promoting anti-racism and allyship for staff and affiliates. This is important work and I’m proud of what we’ve achieved together.”
