Netball Queenland is setting itself the challenge of making the 2023 Nissan Senior State Age even better than this year’s – which exceeded many expectations.
The three-day tournament held on the Gold Coast earlier this month attracted more than 5000 spectators who all gathered at Mudgeeraba for the popular event.
It was the first year that Netball Queensland chose to deliver its Nissan State Age competitions separately as junior and senior, which has already been deemed a success.
Luke Asi, Competitions Lead at Netball Queensland, said not even unfortunate weather for most of the weekend was enough to dampen the spirits of those involved.
“We were blown away by what was achieved with Nissan Senior State Age,” Asi said.
“We had high hopes, we had an army of people put in an incredible amount of work to try and make it the event it deserved to be, and we couldn’t have been much happier with how it went.
“A big thank you to the incredible volunteers, Hinterland District Netball Association for hosting and Major Events Gold Coast for all of its support.”
Off the court the event ticked all the boxes with Netball Queensland’s partners activating and engaging with the thousands in attendance across the weekend.
While on the court the tournament lived up to its high standards with a staggering 886 games played between the 137 teams.
These numbers and the quality of netball and the spirit in which the games were played left Netball Queensland extremely proud of all involved.
“There were so many highlights from the three days it is impossible to pick just one – especially when there were so many history-making moments,” Asi admitted.
“We had a team travel all the way from Darwin for the first time, we had a three-way tie in the 17’s championship division and we had a total of five boys teams compete.
“It’s going to be hard to beat this year’s Nissan Senior State Age, but with the amazing netball community we have in Queenland I am confident we will raise the bar in 2023."
