Netball Australia named the 17 and Under and 19 and Under squads on Tuesday, with 66 athletes from across the country selected.
Queensland’s silver-medal winning 19 and Under team is well represented with six players named in the national squad – Holly Comyns, Jada Delaney, Sasha Flegler, Gemma Hutchings, Jayden Molo and Kaylin van Greunen.
It was a double celebration for the Molo family with Jayden’s sister Tia one of five Queensland athletes named in the 17 and Under national squad alongside Marley Burns, Simone’ Botha as well as Cairns duo Charlotte Jonsen and Ciarn MacBride.
“We couldn’t be happier for those Queensland athletes who have been selected in the 2024 national squads,” Queensland Firebirds Futures Academy and Firebirds Futures Head Coach Jess Whitfort said.
“Their selection is a reward for the hard work and performances they’ve displayed as part of the Queensland state team program and give these highly-talented athletes the chance to experience further exposure to high performance environments.
“Having 11 athletes selected from Queensland across the two squads across the 24 that represented the state in Frankston is a tremendous reflection of the talent that exists in our Netball Queensland pathways.”
The squads were selected by a panel made up of Michelle Wilkins (Netball Australia Pathway Coach and Head of Talent Selection) and Anita Keelan (Netball Australia Pathway Head Coach).
Australia Diamonds Head Coach Stacey Marinkovich and Adelaide Thunderbirds Assistant Coach Cathy Fellows were also involved in the selection process.
Netball Australia will deliver training camps at the Australian Institute of Sport in Canberra across July for the selected athletes as an opportunity to develop their skills and train in a high performance environment.
