Rachelle Swan, President of Pine Rivers Netball Association (PRNA) since 2015, has long been a driving force in Queensland netball.
Her leadership and dedication have had a transformative impact at the club, association and state levels, making her a highly deserving finalist for the 2024 Spirit of Netball Award.
With over two decades of involvement in the sport, Swan has coached countless teams, often taking on the most challenging ones to instil confidence and nurture players’ growth.
As a mentor, she encourages young coaches to step up and contribute to their clubs, resulting in a strong backbone of leadership within PRNA. Beyond her coaching efforts, Swan is a registered umpire and mentors new umpires, dedicating countless hours at the courts from dawn to dusk.
Her contributions extend far beyond the court. Under her leadership, PRNA has flourished through securing new sponsorships, developing a player sponsorship program, and building relationships with local councils and government officials.
In 2023, Swan's tireless efforts were recognised with a Community Service Award for her work in securing joint funding for a new clubhouse, a project that will begin in 2024.
Swan’s commitment to the growth of netball is unwavering. She has played pivotal roles in supporting struggling clubs, such as the Strathpine Scorpions, and has been instrumental in fostering boys’ participation in netball across Queensland. Her leadership extends to the HART Sapphire Series, where she has strengthened franchises and created pathways for players and coaches.
Despite her demanding full-time job, Swan has continuously gone above and beyond, contributing her expertise to Netball Queensland’s Technology and Digital Board Sub Committee and serving as a bench official at major competitions.
Rachelle Swan’s relentless dedication to netball, both on and off the court, has left an indelible mark on the PRNA and Queensland netball communities.
