SUNSHINE Coast Netball Association has capped a hugely successful hosting of the Senior State Age competition, winning the 18 Championship division undefeated.
Sunshine Coast’s 18 Gold team took out the title on Tuesday after four days of the competition, supported by Sunshine Coast Council, at Maroochydore.
In total 176 teams descended on the courts at Maroochydore Multi-Sports Complex, with 1,700 players, 215 coaches, 176 managers, 176 umpires and approximately 4,250 spectators involved.
Downey Park teams were victorious in the 15 Championship, 16 Challenge and 18 Challenge divisions with Logan City winning the 15 Challenge and Northern Gold Coast taking out the 16 Championship.
Cornubia Park won a hotly contested Boys division with Logan City claiming the Performance Award and Queensland Catholic crowned the Champion Association.
Monto, competing in State Age for the first time in the 15s, won two games over the course of the tournament.
All up over 37,000 goals were scored in the 1,277 games played across the event, with plenty of action off the court as well as on it.
Players from both the Queensland Firebirds and Sunshine Coast Lightning Suncorp Super Netball clubs attended while activations from partners including Valour, HART Sport, Mizuno, Health and Wellbeing Queensland and Nissan kept the entertainment going between matches for players, friends and family.
Shuttle buses supported by the University of Queensland helped transport 750 people to and from the venue while Suncorp went through 25 bottles of sunscreen across the event.
