The Thunder were staring at defeat on home soil at Chancellor College on Sunday when Lily Cubby's two-pointer had put the Cougars ahead by five with just three minutes to play but Sally Jenkins shot three consecutive Super Shots in the last two minutes of the contest to snatch a thrilling 65-64 win for the Thunder.
The heartbreaking defeat is the Cougars' third of the season and led to them losing second spot with the Bond University Bull Sharks jumping above them courtesy of their own nailbiting victory - a one-point triumph over HPNL Sapphire division premiers TAE Aerospace Ipswich Jets at Nissan Arena on Saturday.
In a tight contest at Nissan Arena, the Bull Sharks held one-point leads at halftime and three-quarter time and held onto that margin at the final whistle after the Jets failed to land two late two-point attempts.
The Jets', playing without star shooter Elsa Sif Sandholt and midcourt leader Dani Taylor with the pair on Queensland Firebirds duties, suffered their fourth defeat of the season to leave them sixth on the ladder.
The fourth-place Brisbane South Wildcats were led by a remarkable 12 Super Shots from Netball Queensland First Nations representative Georgia Lindsay as they charged to a dominant 70-47 win over the Carina Leagues Club Tigers, with Lindsay finishing with a total of 43 points as the Wildcats blew away the Tigers with a 26-7 final quarter.
In Saturday's other game, the table-topping Gold Coast Titans survived a scare against the winless Moreton Bay City Pulse, trailing the HPNL newcomers by six in the third quarter before coming back to win 65-57.
