I would like to extend my thanks, not only to all of the officials that participated in the Vicki Wilson Championships for 2021, but to the family members who assisted with transporting the umpires to and from the Nissan Arena in Brisbane. There were umpires from Cairns, Mt Isa, Mackay, Gladstone, Hervey Bay, Toowoomba, and South East Queensland.
It is an enjoyable part of my role meeting and observing the umpires from various regions from throughout Queensland. Another positive aspect of my role is coordinating experienced umpire coaches to assist with the umpire development of the 47 umpires who contributed to making this event a productive one.
Not only is the aim to provide umpire feedback to assist with development, but also talent identify umpires who are capable of umpiring competitions and events at higher levels within Netball Queensland. Upon review, pleasingly there were a number of umpires who proved their capabilities, and we look forward to their progression.
During the Vicki Wilson Championships, 3 umpires were successful in achieving their National B Badge.
Factors taken into consideration prior to deciding on testing are the umpire’s capability, lack of opportunity for remote umpires, and any circumstances relevant to the umpire’s environment. Well done to Larissa Davies, Zoe Jaenke, and Erin Hamlyn.
The Vicki Wilson Championships totalled 155 matches and culminated in a final’s series. The intense match play over the 2-day event gradually took its toll with some umpires succumbing to injury niggles or fatigue. However, the umpires who were selected to the final four matches were:

I really appreciate the efforts, high standard of umpiring, and camaraderie that I observed during this event from all involved in the officials network and I welcome you to return in 2022.
Thank you to Lizzy and Nerida (red shirts) from the State Events Committee who assisted keeping things on track and their expertise with the tablets and operating the score box.
- If you took a liking to being a bench official, please let me know if you want to get involved, and I can arrange further insight to being allocated to the HART Sapphire and Ruby Series, and possibly the Firebirds/Lightning matches = best seat in the house !!
Last but not least, the Umpire Coaches who were there to assist with your umpire development by providing feedback (Good-Better-How) from their observations regarding what you have been working on.
I look forward to seeing you all again at some stage in the future.
Regards,
Cameron Williams
