As their time on the inaugural Netball Queensland Youth Advisory Group comes to a close, the sport’s next generation of leaders are urging their peers to seize the opportunity in 2023.
Established by the NQ Board to provide feedback to NQ management on youth sentiment and the experience of participating in netball, the inaugural group has helped provide a forum for members to discuss views and ideas on multiple topics.
NQ is now calling for applications for the next cohort of members for a term of 10 months to form the YAG in 2023.
Emma Frohmuller, a regional member of the inaugural group, wants anyone aged 12 to 24 in the netball community who is interested to make sure they apply.
“If you are someone who loves to learn and are passionate about making the netball community better, there is no better opportunity for you.” Frohmuller said.
“Having a platform to speak about the things you are passionate about, developing a network that will support you through crazy ideas or while contributing to real matters at Netball Queensland, I couldn’t recommend this group enough.
“I will forever be thankful of my experience on the board.”
While the search is on for the next group of youngsters to form the YAG in 2023, for those who were on the group, the personal benefits are set to reach well into the future.
2022 members Hannah Yiannakis and Jasmine Peters are already expecting their experiences to help shape their own ambitions.
“I am aiming to go into a legal career and help people that way,” Peters said.
“This experience has reaffirmed that with the right people around you, you can change things to make them better and help others in the process.”
Brisbane high school student Yiannakis said the personal and professional development opportunities as part of the YAG were numerous.
“I will continue to support those both within NQ and outside NQ to speak up and apply for leadership positions,” Yiannakis said.
“I want to continue to step out of my comfort zone and jump at all the opportunities offered to me and speaking up for those who cannot.”
If you are interested in being on the Youth Advisory Group we encourage you to apply here.
Applications close Wednesday 4 January 2023 and if you’re under 18 you’ll need to grab your parent’s permission.
