An institution at Downey Park Netball Association for decades, Maureen’s netball involvement began when her four daughters played the sport but continued on well after their own playing days were over.
Maureen held multiple positions at Downey Park including serving as the junior and senior registrar, property officer and manageress of DPNA rep teams.
She was awarded life membership with DPNA in 1989 and her voice was often the soundtrack to Saturday afternoons as she operated the public address microphone for many years.
A happy-go-lucky and inclusive person who is remembered for always having a smile on her face as she threw herself into any opportunity she could, Maureen also was a part of the famous ‘red shirts’ who delivered major carnivals such as Junior and Senior State Age events.
She also officiated at World Championships and her volunteering spirit went beyond netball, playing roles at the Commonwealth Heads of Government meeting, the Manchester and Melbourne Commonwealth Games and as a transport assistant during the G20 summit in Brisbane in 2014.
Netball Queensland’s thoughts are with Maureen’s family at this difficult time.
